Sharda Temple, or Sharda Peeth, is an ancient Hindu temple that is situated in Sharda, Neelum Valley, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
Sharda is a small town situated in Azad Kashmir Pakistan. It is famous for its ruined temple structures. Sharda is situated in Neelum District of Azad Kashmir, 136 kilometers north of Muzaffarabad and it is one of its two tehsils.
Cultural Importance of Sharda Temple or Sharda Peeth Hindu Pilgrimage Site :
This location was found by Adi Shankaracharya in 491 AD to preserve India's traditions and religious beliefs.
Shardha Peeth is thought to be more than 250 years old and is visited by thousands of people from all over India every year.
This location, also known as Kalika Matha, is responsible for overseeing the Sama Veda, Paschimamnaya Matha, and Western Matha.
Additionally, it is home to a collection of oriental materials that is thought to contain remnants of an old Dwarka that was submerged in the sea and other old stony things.
Sharda is a scenic spot at an altitude of 1981m. Shardi and Nardi are two mountain peaks overlooking Sharda in the valley. It was a Buddhist and Hindu place of learning for centuries and the temple was dedicated to a Hindu goddess Sharda Devi. Here in Sharda in 9th century the Sharda script was developed.

During the reign of Kashmiri ruler Lalitaditya Muktapida, the building was constructed in the 9th century.The purpose of this is to dedicate it to the patron deity of learning and knowledge, Goddess Saraswati (Saradi).Known as one of the most sacred sites in Kashmiri Hinduism.
Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, Sharda Devi Temple is located in Neelum valley just across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). In the past, it has been a site of a Buddhist University and Adi Shankara is also known to have visited the Temple during his travels across India.
